need to make your own customizable piece of neckwear. So dust off that 
old sewing machine and let’s get crafty!

Materials:</h2>

<li>Sewing machine. If you don’t already have one you can rent one for cheap at your local sewing shop. Typical rates are $10-$20 a day. </li>
<li>Ironing Board</li>
<li>Iron</li>
<li> ¼ yard Pellon® interfacing with iron-on backing, which you can purchase <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Pellon-Decor-Bond-Fusible-Stabilizer/dp/B007VUOEYK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1402001268&sr=8-2&keywords=pellon+interfacing+809http://www.amazon.com/Pellon-Decor-Bond-Fusible-Stabilizer/dp/B007VUOEYK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1402001268&sr=8-2&keywords=pellon+interfacing+809" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a>. I used an 809 firm interfacing, but be sure not to go too firm or your bow tie will be impossible to turn inside out and tie. </li>
<li>Downloadable bow tie pattern. I’ve created a simple FREE pattern of a modern “butterfly” style bow tie, which you can <a href="http://www.tie-a-tie.net/images/make-a-bow-tie/DIY-Bow-Tie-Pattern.pdf" target="_blank">download here</a>. For a kid’s sized bow tie, ages 1 to 12 years old, <a href="http://www.tie-a-tie.net/images/make-a-bow-tie/Kids-Bow-Tie-Pattern.pdf" target="_blank">download here</a>. </li>
<li>¼ yard fabric of your choice. Cotton works best 
because it’s less slippery. More experienced sewers can experiment with 
silks and microfibers. </li>
<li>Scissors</li>
<li>Thread. Be sure to choose a color that matches your fabric. </li>
<li>Pins
 </li>
</ol>

<h2>
Step 1: The Pattern </h2>

Simply print out <a href="http://www.tie-a-tie.net/images/make-a-bow-tie/DIY-Bow-Tie-Pattern.pdf" target="_blank">this pattern</a>. Be sure not to scale the image before printing. A thick paper or cardstock works best. 

Cut the pattern out at your desired length according to the 
measurements indicated by the black lines. These lines indicate the 
wearer’s neck/collar size. Then tape the two pieces together so that you
 get a single piece that looks like this:

Step 2: Cutting and Ironing </h2>

For the best results, be sure to iron your fabric before cutting to 
get rid of any wrinkles that could cause air bubbles when applying the 
interfacing. Use the pattern to cut out 4 pieces from the fabric and 2 
pieces from the interfacing.

Pin the 2 interfacing pieces to the 2 fabric pieces and iron them together.

Step 3: Sewing </h2>

At this point you should have 4 pattern pieces, 2 of them ironed to 
the interfacing and 2 without. Take 2 of the matching pieces, and sew 
the right sides together at the skinny ends, leaving a ¼ seam allowance.
 Repeat with the second pair of tie pieces.

Now you should have 2 long bow tie pieces. Pin them on top of each other with the backside facing up.

Using a ¼ seam allowance, sew around the perimeter of the tie. BE 
SURE TO LEAVE a gap of 3-4 inches open in the middle (as shown in the 
second picture below) so that you can turn the bow tie inside out when 
you’re finished.

Step 4: Turn it Inside-out</h2>

It’s almost time for the big reveal! But before turning it inside out
 you’ll want to clip the corners of your tie to ensure your bow has 
sharp points.

To turn the tie inside out, pinch the end of one side, separating the
 material, then use a stick to push the ends through the gap left in the
 middle. I used a knife sharpener we happened to have laying around the 
kitchen, but any stick-like object (that is not too pointy or sharp) 
will work.

Do this to both sides, scrunching the fabric down the stick until you
 can pull it through like in the forth photo above. When you’re done you
 should get a wrinkly snake-looking blob that looks something like this:

And viola, you’re done! The perfect bow tie! Just kidding. Now it’s 
time to iron your fabric blob. Use a pair of tweezers to pull out all of
 little crevices as you iron it out.

Step 5: Mind the Gap </h2>

We’re almost there! Now it’s time to sew up that gap you used to turn
 the tie inside out. For the best results, fold the edges ¼ inch inward 
and iron them flat. Then, sew the gap up using a matching thread.

When you’re done, it should looks something like this:

By the time your necktie collection is growing and 
when you are wearing ties on a more regular basis, you may want to think
 about getting yourself a necktie accessory to hold your tie in place at
 all times and prevent it from getting in your way when you eat, work or
 play.</div>

<div class="rtext">
Basically, there are five kinds of necktie accessories
 - tie bars, tie clips, tie tacks, tie chains and tie straps - made of 
different types of metals, including gold and silver, or plastics.</div>

<div class="rtext">

 tie bar - also known as a tie slide - is a thin piece of metal that you
 slide across the middle part of your tie in order to attach your tie to
 your dress shirt.</div>

<div class="rtext">
As you can see on the left, tie bars come in all sorts
 of different shapes: There are the plain ones such as the first tie bar
 at the top, some oddly shaped ones such as the second one or even some 
really creative ones such as the fountain pen tie bar at the bottom.</div>

 tie clip - also known as a tie clasp - is very similar in use to the 
tie bar. Instead of sliding it across, though, you would clip it 
horizontally across your tie, thus attaching it to the dress shirt you 
are wearing.</div>

Again, you have many different choices in regard to 
the shape, the length or the material that the tie clip is made of. 
Remember that the material you choose makes a great difference to the 
overall appearance of the tie clip.</div>

<img align="left" alt="Tie Tack" border="0" height="112" hspace="8" src="http://www.tie-a-tie.net/images/tack.gif" vspace="1" width="171" />The tie tack is very different in form and function from both the tie bar and the tie clip.</div>

As you can see on the picture on the left, a complete 
tie tack is made up of two different parts: The decorative part, the 
pin, on the left and the back, or base, with a chain attached to it on 
the right.</div>

<div class="rtext">
To don a tie tack, you have to remove the pin from its
 base, then pierce through the silk cloth of your tie, connect the base 
to the pin again and then slip the metal weight and chain through one of
 the button holes of your dress shirt.</div>

<div class="rtext">
Tie tacks, or rather their pins, come in many 
different forms, too. Instead of a colored stone up front, I have seen 
some more creative ones with police badges, flags or company logos.</div>

<div class="rtext">
Due to the permanent damage a tie tack does to your ties, I would like to caution its use, though.</div>

Tie Chain</h5>

The fixed upper part of the tie chain, the bar, is 
hooked to one of the buttons of your dress shirt and then the tie is put
 through the chain's loop in such a fashion that the bar is hidden 
behind the tie and the chain is visible in the front.</div>

<div class="rtext">
Most tie chains are made of gold or silver and most 
often do not differ much in form or shape from the example shown on the 
left.</div>

Tie Strap</h5>

 tie strap is a restraining device that was introduced relatively 
recently. It keeps your tie in place without restricting its vertical 
movement.</div>

The tie strap works by slipping it through the label 
loop on the back of your tie and then by buttoning it onto your shirt 
buttons above and below the label loop.</div>

<div class="rtext">
Unlike the other tie accessories, this one is most 
often made from either cloth or transparent plastics, making it 
virtually invisible in the latter case.</div>

<div class="rtext">
Even though whatever type of necktie accessory you 
choose is eventually up to you, I would recommend using a tie bar or a 
tie strap. Why? Partly because they really do a wonderful job at holding
 your tie in place at all times but also because they do not do the kind
 of damage that a tie clip could possibly and a tie tack will definitely
 do to your tie. Moreover, a tie bar or a tie strap is also much lighter
 in weight than any tie chain I have come across.</div>

 Welcome to my pocket square folding guide. If you haven't tried 
accessorizing your suit, shirt, and tie with a pocket square then the 
seven reasons below should be convincing enough to give it a try:

Fold #1 - Classic, Sleek, & Elegant</h2>
This fold, also called "Presidential Fold", is one of the easiest 
ways to fold a pocket square. This fold is best for elegant attire 
ranging from formal business dress to <a href="http://www.tie-a-tie.net/black-tie-guide.html">black tie</a>. Typically a classic white pocket square made from silk or linen is used for this fold.

<li>Lay the pocket square on a flat and clean surface.</li>
<li>Fold the pocket square in half.</li>
<li>Fold one side up. How much of the pocket square you fold in is depending on how deep your jacket's pocket is.</li>
<li>Tug the folded pocket square into your breast pocket so that about 1/4 of an inch is visible.</li>
</ol>

Fold #2 - One Tip Up</h2>
Another popular way to fold the pocket square is the triangular "one
 tip up" fold. It suits any type of pocket square and dress code. 
Personally, I like this fold with a solid colored, non-white, pocket 
square.

 Instructions:
 <ol>
<li>Start out by laying the pocket square on a flat surface.</li>
<li>Fold one corner in so that you get two overlapping triangles.</li>
<li>Fold one side of the triangle in.</li>
<li>Do the same on the opposite side.</li>
<li>Finally place the pocket square in your jacket's pocket.</li>
</ol>
<h2>
Fold #3 - Unique & Sophisticated</h2>
Looking for a somewhat different pocket square fold? Then this fold,
 sometimes also called "two tips up" fold might be perfect. It suits any
 pocket square color & pattern. Personally I choose this fold for 
patterned pocket squares accessorizing a casual-sleek outfit that is 
rather sophisticated than formal.

 Instructions:
 <ol>
<li>Place your pocket square on a clean & flat surface.</li>
<li>Fold one side over so that you get two triangles that overlap. I 
prefer the look of having one tip higher than the other (see 
illustration above).</li>
<li>Now fold one side in.</li>
<li>Do the same on the opposite side.</li>
<li>Place your folded pocket square in your breast pocket and you are already done.</li>
</ol>

Fold #4 - The Pocket Square Aficionado's Fold</h2>
This type of fold that is sometimes also called "three tips up" or 
"crown fold" is perfect for patterned and colored pocket squares. 
Although this fold would suit formal attire, I like it most with when 
paired with blazer jacket or sports coat.

 Instructions:
 <ol>
<li>Lay your pocket square on a flat surface.</li>
<li>Fold one side in so that you have the look of two triangles - creating two tips.</li>
<li>To create the third tip, fold in one side as shown in picture #3 above.</li>
<li>This step creates the base which will keep the pocket square in 
place. Fold in the opposite side and make sure to create a strong fold 
with the palm of your hand.</li>
<li>Place the folded pocket square into your pocket and you are done.</li>
</ol>
<h2>
Fold #5 - The Casual Fold</h2>
This type of fold, sometimes also called "Puff fold", is ideal for a
 more casual-sleek outfit. It looks best when used for patterned pocket 
squares. I particularly choose this fold for pocket squares that have 
unique paisley patterns, tartan checks, and polka dots. This fold is 
less suited for formal attire.

 Instructions:

<li>Place the pocket square down flat.</li>
<li>Now pick up the pocket square by pinching it near the center.</li>
<li>Slide the hanky trough your other hand as shown in picture #3.</li>
<li>Now flip the pocket square upside down.</li>
<li>Finally tug the pocket square in your breast pocket. Don't over-think this fold, the fold should look casual and a bit uneven.</li>

As a general rule for all tie knots, the widest part 
of your tie should hang roughly at the same height as the upper edge of 
your leather belt, with the tie's tip extending slightly below it. The 
tip of the narrow end would then hang wherever it may.</div>

If you run into problems trying to get the length 
right with either the Windsor Knot or the Half Windsor Knot, try to let 
the wide end hang down as far as possible in step 1 of the instructions 
for these knots, so that when you cross the wide end over the narrow 
end, you can barely hold on to the narrow end. That will give you more 
length once you have eventually tied the knot.</div>

A very common mistake a beginner makes when learning 
how to tie a tie is that once you get that first knot done right, you 
would never even think about untying your tie at the end of the day. 
Instead, you would probably prefer to make the loop just big enough to 
pull your head out and hang the tied tie on a clothes hanger or over the
 back of a chair.</div>

Unfortunately, that is the most damaging thing you 
could ever do to your tie. What you would rather want to do is to 
properly untie your tie.</div>

However, this is where half the nation - yes, 
beginners and folks who have worn ties for quite some time alike - 
commit the second gravest sin when it comes to untying any tie. That is 
to just rip it off by the time you get home.</div>

extra minute each evening, it will definitely save you your precious tie
 and your hard-money that you would have to spend on new ties every
